Best Free Costumes #5: The Gypsy
When I was little we grew up without a lot of money. One year for Halloween, my mother dressed me up as a gypsy. Sitting at home today, I realized that the very pajama pants I was wearing were more than suitable for a gypsy or fortune teller costume. Thinking back, I began to understand that my mother had merely collected items from around the house to make my most-authentic gypsy costume.
This got me thinking about what kinds of costumes can be put together by everyday items with little or no modification. Here is a run down of my Top Five Best Free Costumes that can be made in a pinch:
- Gypsy:
Number five, from fond memories. I scored lots of candy with this one as a kid. Get a pair of plain billowing pajama pants, or even a long skirt. Wear any shirt you can find, even printed shirts are okay as long as you wear a vest over the printed area. Sandals will work just fine. The trick to this one is to get lots of gold and silver bangles to pile on your arms and scarves to tie around your head, around your waist…anywhere you can think of.
Tune in tomorrow for #4 on our list of Best Free Costumes, made from what you’ve already got at home. Do you have any suggestions for a gypsy costume? Comment below!
