Best Free Costumes #1: Greek God or Goddess

Published by hellokitty at 7:00 am under Best Free Costumes, Costume Websites Edit This

Yesterday we learned how to make an easy rock star costume. Now for our #1 on the list of easy to make costumes that make a big impact:

    Greek God:

Who doesn’t own a bed sheet? As a God or Goddess, your costume can range from very plain to incredibly whimsical, without much effort on your part.

For the basic elements of the costume, tie the opposite diagonal corners of a white bed sheet at your shoulder. Slip on a pair of sandals and you’re done.

The real essence of this costume is which God or Goddess you want to be. See more information on Greek Gods and Goddess to get an idea of who you want to be. For Aphrodite, a love theme is in order. You can use lipstick to put a cute little heart on your face, for example. For Zeus, you’ll need to be extra bossy for the evening and a cardboard lightening bolt doesn’t hurt. Let your imagination run wild with the possibilities of what each deity would look like.

Girls, use a rope, gold chain or scarf to tie around your waist. This will give some shape to your flowing bed sheet. Flowers are a must in any capacity. Use them at your wrists, ankles, neck or anywhere else you can get them to stay. Pipe cleaners or twist ties work wonders for keeping fake and real flowers in place.

Guys, try to avoid sandals that are obviously Nike brand. Go with something a little more authentic if you can help it. I know it’s tempting not to, but please wear clothing under your toga. Also, a little eyeliner won’t hurt as a Greek God…they were quite the fancy bunch.

For most any Greek God/ess costume, get some fake leaves (or real ones!) and braid a crown of foliage, or just tuck a few sprigs here and there in your hair.
