Once in a while, you come upon a website that really just makes you feel lucky that you’ve found it. For all the Google’s and Yahoo’s in the world, the best sites are still those that take some digging to find. And it’s not just the Hello Kitty icon talking.
When I stumbled upon Nanao’s Cosplay Research site, I hadn’t found much steady on cosplay outside of Cosplay.com and CosplayLab.com, which are sites that are more for user posts than a real study of the cosplay climate. These daily bites of cosplay beauty are those that Nanao has found all over the web and post to her site for us to enjoy. I recommend putting this on your feed and checkin back daily!
Some will argue that the following video doesn’t contains cosplay as much as it contains excuses for skimpy outfits. Others will tell you that Arisa Mizuhara is a wonderful cosplay talent who has turned her hobby into a lucrative career. What do you think?
Check out this feature on Nanao’s Cosplay Research featuring Arisa’s Rozen Maiden cosplay. I like the way Nanao puts it, Arisa looks much like a real-life doll. If I could pull off cute outfits like that one, I’d be in the business of having my picture taken, too.
So what do you think? Is this just a hot girl making money off of cosplaying, or is she a legitimate fan?
I woke up today in a brand new blue state and Obama is gearing up to preside over the White House. So, it’s no secret that when a Democrat is in office, there is a more supportive social structure for the arts in many urban communities. With potentially more money being funneled to support the art programs in public schools and colleges, do you think that we will see some more creative clothing designs in the years to come?
Some of the best costumes I’ve seen come from those who have had some kind of formal training or special classes on sewing or design. Do you think that it makes a difference?
I imagine that in a landfill somewhere, years in the future, people will come upon bags full of beer-stained red suits and frameless glasses and wonder what kind of wild librarian convention we had in 2008. With Palin headed back up to Alaska after the events of last night’s election, you can bet that we aren’t predicting repeat performances of some of the best Palin costumes that came out of the woodwork this Halloween.
Here are a few suggestions for what to do with you woe-be-gone Caribou Barbie outfit.
Save the suit! Get that Jell-O shot stain out of there and wear it to your next job interview.
Use the glasses to adorn one of those creepy animated Santa’s in the upcoming holiday.
Give all those cans of hairspray to your sister/aunt/roommate. The smell of her head will remind you of Tina Fey for months.
Look at the bright side, you’ve perfected your northern accent and innocent winking abilities.
Okay, perhaps it was fun to dress up as Sarah Palin for Halloween, but from the looks of the Today Show, we haven’t seen the last of those square glasses and red suit jackets. One of those crazy people with nothing better to do but stand outside the studio was sporting her Palin best. Now, many states do not allow any kind of campaign advertisements on any voters at the polls. No shirts, buttons, signs, while waiting in line.
So what if someone shows up dressed as Sarah Palin? It’s easily the most popular costume among the candidates, and with Halloween on the wane, there are plenty in closets across America at this moment. Do you think that a Sarah palin look-alike should be turned away from the polls based on the rule against campaign endorsements in line?
I’m trying to keep together a list of events that will give you a good excuse to dress up in November. Like you need an excuse, right? Here are a few Anime and general cosplay conventions happening in November 2008. I only have a few here, so if you know of any more, leave me a comment and I’ll add to the list.
So how hard did you tear down Halloween this year? I may be guilty of staying in and watching sitcoms throughout the week. Here is a recap of what happened on the big day, whether you went out or not. It was really hard to find a batch of videos that didn’t have a ‘Thriller’ soundtrack.
A bit of The Office episode aired for Halloween. So glad I don’t work in an office anymore.
I thought that you would enjoy some of the very elaborate costumes in this photo slideshow of ‘guidosclafani’s Halloween party.
Here’s something different. Roller Jam’s Halloween Party, where adults get down for one night on their own at a roller rink. I’m wondering if alcohol was served at this one. There’s got to be some great moments involving vampires, rollerskates and vodka.
Ahh, Halloween at the Playboy mansion. Was there ever a better excuse to round up a skimpy costume?
Hope your Halloween was a blast, are you already plotting your costume for next year?
So, the crazy Halloween parties have given way to horrendous Halloween hangovers. How was your night? November 1st is a day of cleaning out that extra makeup behind your ears, peeling spirit gum from your hairline and, most of all, taking one last look at your Halloween decorations.
It’s always a sad day in my house when I make those depressing rounds, pulling ghosts from the rafters and folding up the jointed skeletons. We have a couple of boxes of costumes that need organizing, and I always need to figure out the best way to store my costume until next year, or whenever I might wear it again. This year we won a costume contest for the 4th year in a row, with the classic clown concept. Throwing confetti and balloons from the stage didn’t hurt.
Timeis running out to enter the YouTube COstume Contest put on by YouTube user ‘dudeneedaeaseonup‘. While the prizes aren’t that fabulous, it’s still good to get in your bragging rights to the big audience on his channel. Here is the video posted to introduce the contest:

Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about it. Maybe it’s because the race for the White House is really heating up just at the end of October, but I think Sarah Palin would have been a top costume choice of 2008 anyway. The advantage for you is that this is a great thrift-store costume, meaning that you shouldn’t have to buy anything expensive to complete the outfit.
Here is a step-by-step photo tutorial that will show you how to make a Sarah Palin costume using items found at your local department store, thrift store and even at home. You’ll even learn how to do your hair like Sarah Palin.
What do you think about this tutorial? Do have more suggestions on how to make a Sarah Palin costume?
